How to Create a Favicon Icon for Your Website
Would you like to display your own icon on the browser address bar and browser tabs when visitors view your web pages hosted at Yellow Dandelions?
What's a Favicon?
Favicon (short for Favorites Icon) is a feature that makes it possible to associate a special logo or other small graphic with a web page. The favicon is usually displayed next to the web site address and browser tabs when visitors view your website. Favicons can be used to personalize or brand your web sites.
Now it's easy to create icons and marquees for your web pages with FavIcon from Pics. Simply select a picture, logo or other graphic (of any size/resolution) for the "Source Image" and click "Generate FavIcon.ico" Their website is located here http://www.htmlkit.com/services/favicon/
Place your new favicon ico. file in the root directory (inside the public_html directory) right along with your other web pages.
Helping the Browser Locate the favicon.ico file
You have to help your visitors' browser locate the favicon file by specifying it with a tag like the following in the section of your web page. Copy and paste the following HTML code in your web pages.
<link rel="shortcut icon" href="favicon.ico">
<link rel="icon" type="image/gif" href="animated_favicon1.gif">
You should replace "/favicon.ico" in the above example with the actual location of your favicon.ico file, for example, "/images/favicon.ico" only if you have placed it in your "/images/" directory.
